Pemberville Public Library is a school district public library serving the Eastwood School District. The Eastwood School Board is the taxing authority for the public library, and responsible for appointment of Board members. Each board member is appointed for a 7-year term, one appointed each year in December. There is no remuneration for the position. How do I become a board member? If interested in becoming a board member, send a letter stating your reasons for wanting to become a board member along with a resume to Eastwood Board of Education, 4800 Sugar Ridge Road, Pemberville, OH 43450 sometime during the month of October or November. An interview will be scheduled by a committee comprised of Eastwood Board of Education members and Pemberville Library Board of Trustee members prior to the December School Board meeting. An announcement of the appointment will be made at the December Eastwood Board of Education meeting. What are the responsibilities of Board members? One to two hour board meetings are held monthly. There are various committee appointments within the Board. The Board of Trustees is responsible for setting policy for Pemberville Library and its branches. The Board hires a director and clerk treasurer who then carry out the Board’s policy. Board members approve budget requests and set appropriations. They are sometimes asked to attend meetings of larger library organizations and make sure that the library is meeting or exceeding standards set at the state and national level. They are often the true promoters of library service in the community.
