July 15, 2025

 

John Selzer, President, called the meeting to order at 4:30 pm.

 

Roll Call:  Members present were Mary Jo Bish, Ron Eckel, Steve Gross, Sharon Nigh, David St. Louis, John Selzer, and Amber Stark.  Also present were Julie Getz (Fiscal Officer), Ariel Jacobs (Director), and Laura King (Secretary).

 

Secretary's Minutes:  Amber Stark made and Steve Gross seconded a motion to approve the Secretary’s minutes with a spelling correction (no “e” in Woodlink under New Business).  All ayes recorded.

 

Fiscal Officer's Statements:  There was a discussion concerning the need to cut costs anywhere it is possible to do so.  The monthly allocations were Gross $30,570.99 minus Woodlink $1,515.3 6 for a Net of $28,995.63.  Ron made and Mary Jo seconded a motion to approve the Fiscal Officer’s report, transfer $50,000 from Star Ohio to checking, and Memorials and Donations

            Julia Coon memorial from Susan Raihofer $100.00

            Connor Schramm (excess proceeds from Eagle Scout flag boxes project for Luckey and Stony Ridge) $601.77.

            Dolly Parton Imagination Library of Ohio from the Hot Flashes $140.00

            Adult Programs $3.00

            Pour Painting Program $40.00

            Cemetery Walk Program $10.00

            General $67.51

All ayes recorded.

 

Director's Report

            House Bill 96:  Ariel discussed the progress of the bill.  After summer break July 21 the House will begin overriding vetoes.

            Mileage Update:  Updating the mileage sheet clarifying procedure has resulted in a decrease of mileage reported and, as a result, has saved the Library money. 

            Hoopla:  There has been update on the credit we may receive for the April bill.  The June bill is back to normal.

            Luckey Columbia Gas Bill Update:  Colder temperatures this winter and an increase in the gas rate have contributed to the increase in the monthly bill.

            Pemberville Grand Parade:  The Library will have a small float this year.

            Bookmobile:  The Troy Villa bookmobile will be eliminated because of Wood County Library’s spending cuts.

            

Old Business:

            EPA: No updates.

New Business

            Stony Ridge Festival:  Mary Jo made and Steve seconded a motion to close Stony Ridge July 26, 2025, for the festival.  All ayes recorded.

            2025 Q2 Statistics:  Statistics are fairly on track with other years.  Stony ridge did better than expected.  Luckey circulation may be affected by the Beryllium factor.

            Decrease in State Funding:  Ariel suggested a number of measures to lower spending.  The Board also suggested some ideas.  Mary Jo made and Steve seconded a motion to freeze collection spending effective immediately until September 1, 2025.  All ayes recorded.  More definitive planning will be done at the August meeting.

            SRP Adult and Youth programs are shown on the August program sheet.

            Stony Ridge Festival  July 25 and 26, 2025

            Pemberville Free Fair August 2-23, 2025 The library will have a booth and book sale in the commercial tent.

            Wood County Library Crawl:  June 1-August 30, 2025

 

Ariel thanked the Trustees who helped with various projects at Pemberville and the branches.
