2026 Summer Reading Program “Unearth a Story”

Unearth a Story runs June 8 - July 31

Our 2026 Summer Reading Program theme is "Unearth a Story." Recording of reading will all be done in-person in the libraries this year, so stop in to check out books and sign up for in-person programs and take-home activities!

Children (ages preschool through 6th grade)

Registration begins Saturday, May 23 and recording reading for prizes begins Monday, June 8. Kids will be keeping track of their reading this year to earn brag tags and beads! Every child receives a chain and Library tag when they record their first book. We will have weekly in person programs, as well as activity centers at the library.

Books are assigned the following points:

  • 1 point each: Picture books and ICanRead books
  • 4 points each: Juvenile Fiction (chapter books), Graphic Novels, and Nonfiction.

This year children have a chance to earn bragtags for every 10 points they earn. Every time participants record their reading they can pick out a bead

Teens (entering grades 7 - 12)

This year teens will be participating in a book genre bingo! When participants register they will be given a half sheet bingo form to take home for them to keep track of their reading.

Participants will get a drawing ticket for a bingo by getting five squares in a row, diagonally, across, or down. They will also get a small prize for the bingo.

Participants can earn a second drawing ticket by reading another 5 books for a second bingo.

Teens can earn a maximum of two drawing tickets. The drawing tickets that are earned will give participants entry into the drawing for a $75 gift card, which will be announced at the end of Summer Reading.

Tweens (Grades 5 - 8)

Tweens (grades 5 - 8) can also sign up for weekly Tween Challenges on Monday evenings at Pemberville! These are activities designed to encourage kids to work as a team or individually to accomplish a task. Registration is required, so please call or visit the library to sign up. Registration begins May 24th.

Adults (ages 18 and up)

Recording reading for drawing tickets begins Monday, June 1

Adults will keep track of the number of books read and this year, participants will receive their participation prize after their first library item is returned.  Everyone who registers will be assigned a number, so you will only have to put your assigned number on the drawing ticket. • Earn 1 ticket for every book, audiobook, or ebook you read or listened to.
  • Earn 1 ticket for every 12 books you read to your
    young child.
  • Earn 1 ticket for every 5 magazines you read.
  • Earn 2 tickets when you read a book from the “Unearth a Story” display at the Library.
  • Earn 1 extra ticket for each book review you complete
  • Earn 1 ticket for each weekly activity sheet you complete.
  • Earn extra tickets by participating in the Bingo! sheet.
